My answer would be that I think you should do what your significant other would want you to do, afterall it is all about the two of you anyway, and no one else should matter as long as you respect each other's wishes. If she is respectful to her family's wishes, and you really love her, then do what she would want you to do. I am a white caucasian female, since you asked.
