How to clean/care for natural suede?

I own a lot of NATURAL suede shoes & boots. I have a nice pair that is new (wore them one time) of course the icky salt and harshness of winter had to make them dirty.. arghhh!! Anyways stupid me, I used LEATHER shoe polish and started wiping those dirty white spots! Anyways, I did that to one boot, and the other I used a wet rag. NOW the boot that I used polish on is more glazed looking, so I tried to wipe that off w/ a wet soapy rag.. ugh, now my boots are uneven looking. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO RESTORE THEM BACK TO NEW?!??!?! Please help me on the proper care of natural suede!! Thanks!
